Firefly study  2005 observations

Rough count of aerial sightings in one hectare of forest area at an elevation of 714 metres, through which a swampy creek runs and includes a clearing of
approximately 1100 sq.m.in area.
Rainfall figures provided are BoM standard 9am to 9am registrations.

Rainfall prior to this study in October total 140mm (av=125mm)
November total to date of most recent observation 244mm (av=169mm)

2005 Notes

1. The ceiling height of the flight pattern was lower than usual tonight ( 2 metres ) usual height is around 4 metres.
2. Very heavy rainfall over a 40 minute period
3. First large scale emergence. Flight ceiling height around 1>2 metres.
No females evident.
4. Larger emergence. Flight ceiling height around 1>2 metres.
No females evident.
5. Strong wind, flight confined to sheltered forest area.
6. First female found near creek bank.
7. End of current emergence. Registrations have ceased at this point and will resume if a second emergence occurrs.
