CSIRO Fire behaviour meters - Downloads
The CSIRO Grassland Fire Danger and Fire Spread meters as well as the McArthur Mk 5 Forest Fire Danger Meter are now available as a computer program complete with extensive help files on their operation. The program, called the CSIRO Fire Danger and Fire Spread Calculator, is compatible with Windows 95 & 98, Windows NT and Windows 2000. It has been written by CSIRO using the algorithms published by Noble, Bary and Gill (1980) for the Forest Fire Danger Meter and the algorithms published by Cheney, Gould and Catchpole (1998) for grasslands. It also includes the Fire Spread Meter for Northern Australia.
SiroFire - a computer-based fire spread simulator
The CSIRO Bushfire Spread Simulator SiroFire is a real-time PC-based decision support system with the capacity to predict the behaviour and spread of up to ten fires over the landscape. It is based upon the McArthur Fire Danger Rating Systems for grassland and forest but also includes the new CSIRO Grassland Fire Spread Prediction System and the Rothermel model for grass and forest litter fuels. A GIS-derived map and digital elevation model provide information about fuel types and topography while information about fuel condition and weather is provided by the user. SiroFire is easy to use and is tailored for use by fire control officers to assist in suppression strategy and planning.
SiroFire may also be used as a tool for training.
